With the exception of unusual events (eg very heavy snowfall), the school is legally required to be open for 190 days during the school year.  In addition, there will be five days when the school is closed for staff in-service training.    We understand that this may have child-care implications but such training is of vital importance for the future development of the quality learning provided for your children.

Illness and Emergencies

Children learn best when they are well. If your child is taken ill, we will contact you or the person nominated as your contact.  It is vital therefore that we are kept informed of changes of address and work and home telephone numbers.  In case of emergency we would contact Cranleigh Health Centre.  If your child develops a medical problem, please let us know immediately.

It would be much appreciated if you could check your child’s hair daily for head lice.  They can thrive in any kind of hair, but can easily be destroyed by treatment advised by your pharmacist.  Regular combing through with conditioner when your child’s hair is washed is recommended to help keep head lice at bay.

Medicines

Medicines must be kept in the school office at all times.  Please label containers clearly with names and dosages.  Parents are required to complete a medicine administration form when their child needs to have medication in school.  Please click here for the medical administration form.

Discipline

The school policy is to reinforce and reward good behaviour. We set high standards in the interest of both the individual and the school community. Teachers agree class rules with pupils at the beginning of each academic year and these are reinforced regularly.

It is our aim that every child should feel secure and happy at school and we actively work with children and parents to prevent bullying. Parents are encouraged to talk to the Class Teacher, Assistant Head Teachers,  or Head Teacher about any problems which may arise so that these can be addressed quickly and positively.

Lost Property

Unnamed items of clothing will be placed in lost property. We would ask parents/carers to ensure that all items of clothing are named and any lost items are collected as soon as possible.

Lost property bins can be located in the Year 2 and Year 6 corridors.

Lunchtime Arrangements

Lunchtime is often underestimated in its potential for developing pupils’ social and communication skills.  For this reason much planning is afforded this area of school life.  Funding has been directed towards maintaining a high level of quality play and activity equipment.

Lunchtime supervisors help children to develop a sense of responsibility and promote their independence in the dining hall.   Pupils are supported in their playground activities and structure provided where necessary.  Key Stage 2 playground areas are allocated to specific year groups to allow for interaction but to guard against the potential for younger pupils to feel intimidated.  The importance of taking care of equipment is emphasised and pupils are given responsibility appropriate to their age and development.  A well-established buddy system operates between our older and younger pupils.
